| Gardner Church of the Nazarene Prayer Shawl Ministry History: The prayer shawl ministry began in the fall of 2008. Tapestry Women’s Ministry was having a weekend retreat at The Barn near Tonganoxie, KS. A representative from College Church of the Nazarene had come, at our request, to tell us about their prayer shawl ministry. We were “hooked” right then and started meeting and making the shawl within the next few months. The journey has been a blessing not only those who have received the shawls, but to those of us who have had the privilege of making the shawls and praying for the recipients. What we do: The goal of the prayer shawl ministry is to touch the lives of those hurting, whether physically, emotionally or spiritually, with the love of Jesus. There is nothing magical about the shawls. They are just tenderly and lovingly made by women who care. Our desire is that when the recipient wraps that shawl around them, they will be reminded of God’s love for them and they will remember that there are many prayers going up on their behalf. Getting involved: The prayer shawl ministry meets every other Thursday from 7:00-8:30 at the home of Diane (in Gardner) or Joyce (in Olathe). Dates and place is kept updated in the weekly church bulletin and on this website. Don’t think that you can’t be involved if you don’t knit or crochet. We also need prayer warriors, help with the website and those who can deliver the prayer shawls and pray with the recipients. We also need bargain hunters who are willing to donate yarn from garage sales, home, etc. Here are some of the thank you notes we have received from some who have been blessed with a prayer shawl: | |||||||
